Through Wayne Kohwles and Ken Washbrook I learned of Roy's passing.  I am sorry for your loss. 
Roy was my mentor and friend.  Roy's life when I knew him was very much about service to his Queen in the UK and Canadian armies.
In 1946, Roy enrolled in the The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (RRF) where he proudly served for 20 years.  The RRF is based out of the Tower of London.  In the early ‘50s Cpl Rogers was posted to the Regimental Depot (depot is what the Commonwealth countries call their army recruit training camp - Americans call it boot camp).  As a small claim to fame he told me that for 12 weeks, he had direct supervision and control over the now famous British actor Michael Caine during the time Caine was doing National Service (ie drafted).
His achievements in the RRF and the British army were significant.  In the ‘60s, The British army adopted a policy to accelerate promotion of ‘selected' staff sergeants (E-7) to warrant officer 2 class (WOII – E8) for the specific purpose of commissioning them from the ranks.  Roy was among the first in the UK army selected for this distinction. When the time came to commit to going to the officers' mess – he changed his mind, retired and moved to London, Ontario in Canada.  The City of London was home to both 1st Battalion of The Royal Canadian Regiment (The RCR)– a regular force unit and the Canadian Regiment that was affiliated with the RRF; and 4th Battalion, The RCR (London and Oxford Fusiliers).  He joined 4 RCR.  A few years later he moved to Windsor, Ontario and transferred to The Essex and Kent Scottish and in 1968/69, WO1 (E-9) Rogers was appointed the Regimental Sergeant Major.  Subsequently, Roy he was commissioned and two years later, was promoted to major.  In 1973, Major Rogers took the Regiment to Camp Petawawa for militia summer concentration where, under his command, it was awarded the Maj Gen George Kitching Trophy for being the best trained unit at militia training concentration in the Province of Ontario.  
Roy left Windsor the following year to follow his employment.  Along the way he transferred to other famous Canadian regiments including The Lorne Scots in Brampton and The 48th Highlanders in Toronto.  Roy was a staff officer at Canadian Army HQ in St Hubert, Quebec when he reached the compulsory retirement age of 55.
In the early ‘90s Roy's spouse Donna accepted employment as a registered nurse in Raleigh.  It was then that they and their daughter Melanie moved to America.
