

Sara was born July 19, 1933 in Lawrenceville, Brunswick County, Virginia, the youngest child of Erby and Mabel Seward. Sara grew up in Lawrenceville where she met and married Alton W. Malbon, who was at a temporary job in Brunswick County the summer they met. The couple then moved to Richmond, Virginia, where Sara obtained an associate’s degree in business. Sara worked for over thirty years, first in retail sales and clothing, then office administration in several medical practices. She was a lifelong learner and took many opportunities to expand her professional and personal knowledge.
Sara was foremost a devoted wife and mother. She had a very generous spirit and was very active in the neighborhood, community, and church in every city in which she lived. Her interests included cooking, baking, arranging meals and entertaining; singing in a choir, sewing, traveling, reading, gardening and playing cards. She also had a special place in her heart for children and was a beloved friend to many over the years. Sara always tried to be active and helpful, and her perseverance showed in the support she gave to family members and friends her entire life.
Mrs. Mlabon was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Malbon, Sr., brothers, Carlton and Carlyle Seward and sisters, Geraldine Epperson and Rachel Fletcher.
Surviving Sara are her sons Alton Malbon, Jr. of Raleigh, Steven Malbon of Richmond, Virginia, and one sister, Alice Fletcher of Richmond, Virginia. Surviving also are several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Monday, September 14, 2015 at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh NC. A graveside service will be conducted the same day at 3PM at Rock United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, VA.
