Susan T Cox

Susan was born to John Bernard Terry and Vivian Griffin Terry on November 25, 1955 in Raleigh.

Susan was a lifelong resident of Raleigh and attended Broughton High School. Upon graduation in 1974, she continued her studies at UNC Chapel Hill where she earned a Bachelors of Arts in Education and Masters of Arts in Teaching. She spent her entire 34-year career as an elementary school ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in the Wake County Public School System.

Susan’s greatest delight was being a mother and grandmother. She loved any opportunity to bring her family together, and she was intent on making each gathering special for everyone involved. Any family celebration was not complete without plenty of food, hundreds of photos, and way too many gifts!

Susan was a devoted wife to James Edward Cox for 45 years, and loving mother to: Christopher James Cox and wife Amanda; Caroline Johnsen and husband Bob; and Corey Jonathan Cox. She cherished her role as grandmother to Madelynn, Stella and Haley Cox and Dudley Johnsen. Susan is also survived by her younger sister Linda Terry Jones and husband Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Mark Terry.

A memorial service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Wednesday July 16, 2025 at 11am at Asbury Church, located at 6612 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC. A visitation will follow the service in the church lobby.
