

Thomas Franklin (T.F.) Barker, Jr., departed this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in Greensboro, NC. He was born on November 8, 1923, in Birmingham, AL, to Thomas Franklin (Frank) and May Alsup Barker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Sullivan Barker; one brother, John J. Barker, and a great-grandson Daniel J. Roach. He is survived by one son, Robert E. Barker and his wife Peggy; one daughter, Flora B. Price and her husband, Henry; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
T.F. and Evelyn were married on Christmas Day in 1941. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he returned home in 1946, and the family began a new life in Columbia, SC, where they enjoyed good times and made many good memories. A brick mason by trade, T.F. worked as a residential contractor. He was a lifelong member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. His faith was his primary focus and his passion.
In his final years, he resided at Camden Place in Greensboro where he and Evelyn spent two and a half years together until her passing in July 2013.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 8, at 2 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Camp Ground Chapel in Perry, GA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 80581, Charleston, SC, 29416-0581.
