

Thomas Russell Riley, 90, of Raleigh passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013. Born in Washington, DC on July 5, 1922, the son of the late William R. and Grace Ochershausen Riley, he has resided in the Washington, Maryland area most of his life, before moving to Raleigh 8 years ago. Mr. Riley retired after a career in the Building and Construction business. He was a former member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. Thomas was a US Marine Corp. veteran of WW II and the Korean War, where he was one of the first helicopter pilots. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Collins Riley and two brothers.
Surviving are: his wife, of 11 years, Mary Edmonston Riley of Raleigh; four sons, Thomas R. (Jane) Riley, Jr. of Massachusetts, James M. Riley of Tennessee, Matthew W. (Frances) Riley of Raleigh and Gerald F. (Manuela) Riley of Tennessee; two step-children, Cathy E. (Nick) Carros of New Jersey, Carrie E. (Darrin) Goodall of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Page and Blake Riley; four step-grandchildren, Alex and Caroline Carros, Anna and Billy Goodall.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 PM Friday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15663 Norbeck Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD. Burial with military honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
