Veronica was the fourth child of six children, of Martimima and Jose Viana in British East Africa (modern day Tanzania). She was sent to India at age ten. After graduating nursing school and spending several years nursing in India; she moved to the United States in 1990. She worked as a nurse on Long Island serving in home care and Emergency Department. After moving to North Carolina in 2005 she worked as a nurse in Emergency, PACU, Oncology at several hospitals in the Raleigh area. She retired from University of North Carolina Medical Center in 2020.
She is survived by her husband Edward Gilmartin and sisters Cleopatria Ferrao and Diana Perimal, brothers Anthony and Michael Viana. She was predeceased by her son Vivek Hari and her brother Francis. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who she greatly loved.
