

She was a proud Brazilian and was deeply devoted to her Christian faith. She was a retired Spanish and ESL teacher with Wilson County Schools and she enjoyed gardening, watching birds, singing hymns, and listening to sermons in her spare time. She made friends wherever she would go, touching many people throughout her life’s journey with her open heart and kindness.
She is predeceased by her sister Nalú Costa, her brother Josué Gomes, and her nephew Marcelo Costa.
She is survived and greatly loved by her children, Monica Nguyen (Scott) and Jaclyn Nguyen; her sisters, Debora Costa and Raquel Matos; her brother, Jeremias Costa; her nephews, Matheus, Simei, Jonair Junior, Mário Júnior, and Otto; and her nieces, Stephanie, Erica, Eliza, and Marivania.
Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to her dearest friends from the Sloan Family, her doctors and nurses at Duke Raleigh Cancer Center and Duke HomeCare and Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
