Audrey passed away at the age of 95 in her home and under the care of her son, Alan Griffin and his wife Debra. Her daughter Diann Gruen, grandson Joseph Gold-Gruen, and his wife Dafna were able to spend time with her during her last days. Audrey is survived by four of her seven brothers and sisters: Lois White, Howard Jensen, Ruth Beauchamp and Mel Jensen. She also leaves a granddaughter, Johanna Gruen and her husband Nafiul, two great-grandchildren, Fritz and Sai, as well as a brother-in-law and his wife, John and Shirley Griffin and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was born in Douglas County, Nebraska, at the offset of the Great Depression. She was the third child of Iver and Vivian Jensen. She spent her youth on a farm near Dannebrog, tending livestock and aiding in the fields. She graduated from Omaha Technological High School, focusing on business and business machines. During high school, she worked in a bakery and at Father Flannigan’s Boys’ Town. After graduation, she followed her brother to Red Bluff, CA, where she found a job at Crocker Bank. She spent her off time with friends at Idyllwylde Roller Skating Rink.
She met and married Gordon Griffin in 1950 and had two children, Diann and Alan. They spent the next 62 years of their lives restoring old cars, antiquing, traveling, camping, spending summers at their cabin in Mineral and creating and enjoying a fruitful life with their children and grandchildren. Even after Gordon’s passing in May of 2012, Audrey was completely devoted to her family and continued many of the activities she enjoyed with her husband, especially summers in their Mineral cabin.
Audrey was the glue that held the Griffin family together and she will be dearly missed by those she has left behind.
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Gordon Griffin, at Oak Hill Cemetery: 600 Cemetery Ln, Red Bluff, at 11am on Saturday, December 6th. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Town, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
