
Gerald “Jerry” Richard Clawson passed away at the University of California San Francisco after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, and sons Gary (Kim) Clawson and Ed (Chinny) Clawson, all of Red Bluff. He was the cherished Pap Pap of Cassie (Trevor) Rogers, Miranda (Brady) Sale, Marissa (Josh) Alamo, Andrew Clawson, and Wesley Clawson (fiancée, Haley Scott). He was the brother-in-law of Loretta (Brad) Carter and Larry Berti. He leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania to James and Sarah Jane (Ross) Clawson. He was the third of four sons, Jim, Don, and Butch. He attended local schools and graduated from Derry Area High School in 1959. He won numerous awards for his dairy judging and earned the Degree of Keystone Farmer in 1960.
In 1961, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at the Red Bluff Air Force Station in 1962 where he met Linda. They were married in 1963 and Gary Richard was born in 1964 and Edward James was born in 1966. Jerry was the owner and mechanic of Jerry’s ARCO and Jerry’s Automotive for years before servicing local police cars through the Regional Occupation Program. He was the auto shop teacher for Red Bluff High School for twenty-one years where he taught hundreds of students before retiring in 1998.
Jerry coached both of his sons in Little League and Big League Baseball. He supported local athletes and traveled to San Bernadino in 1974 to watch the Red Bluff All-Stars baseball team that eventually played in the Little League World Series. His favorite pastime was to watch all of his grandchildren play sports. Jerry participated in local bowling leagues and loved to golf with his buddies. He was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer for the Pittsburgh Steelers and watch NASCAR.
