Indalecio "Gus" Guzman, also known as "Lecho," a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at his home in Red Bluff, California, with his beloved wife Anita of 67 years by his side. He was 95 years old.
Born on May 31, 1930, in Westwood, Lassen County, California, to Juan and Sara Guzman, Gus lived a life marked by service, love, and an enduring commitment to family and community. A proud veteran, Gus served 23 years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander as a skilled naval pilot and flight instructor. His courage, expertise, and dedication in training others and serving his country were a source of pride for his family and community.
After retiring from the Navy, Gus embarked on a second career in education, teaching history, Spanish, and English as a Second Language with passion and purpose. His gift for language extended beyond the classroom as a state-certified court bilingual translator, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life left a lasting impact.
Above all, Gus was a devoted family man. He shared a deep and abiding love with his wife, Anita, and cherished every moment spent with her, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Known for his warmth and generosity, Gus delighted in cooking for his family, with his breakfasts—often waffles prepared with strawberries and a whipped cream smiley face for his grandchildren—becoming a treasured tradition. In his younger years, he fostered a spirit of adventure in his children, taking them on memorable camping trips and cross-country road adventures in the family camper, instilling in them a lifelong love of exploration and discovery.
Gus is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Guzman; his children, Sara Sanchez, John Guzman, Michael Guzman, and Jude Guzman; his grandchildren, Marco Sanchez, Alejandra Sanchez, Brandon Guzman, Nicholas Guzman, Jeffrey Guzman, Brenden Guzman, and Jace Guzman; and his great-grandchildren, Vanessa Sanchez and Jovani Sanchez.
Gus will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his kindness, wisdom, and adventurous spirit. He will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
