Wesley was born on April 5, 1918 to Chris and Harriet Christenson in Fall River Mills, CA. His family moved to a farm in Red Bluff, CA when he was very young, bringing their possessions in a horse drawn wagon. He called Red Bluff home for the majority of his life.
Wesley attended Red Bluff High School, then continued his education at Biola University with an emphasis in Ministry. Shortly after his time at Biola, Wesley was drafted. He served his country as an Army Medic during World War II. After the war ended, on his way home, Wesley met and fell in love with Helen Groth of Pasadena, CA. They were married at her parent’s home in November of 1949.
Upon returning to Red Bluff, Wesley put his Ministerial training to excellent use; not in any formal setting, but as he and Helen raised their six kids, opened their home to any and all in need, and served as a faithful and much-loved member of his church for decades.
Wesley enjoyed working with his hands. To provide for his family he was a walnut and prune farmer. He also bought, fixed up, and sold homes in town.
Preceding him in death were his father Chris Christenson, his mother Harriet Christenson, brother Douglas Christenson, his sister Edith Arnold, two sons-in-law, David Clark and Arthur Buchanan; and great granddaughter, Lydia Buchanan.
Wesley is survived by: his wife of 71 years, Helen; his six children, Arthur Christenson, Elsa Buchanan, Harriet Weeks (Daniel) of Montreal, QC, Sara Macy (Roger) of Iowa Falls, IA, John Christenson (Anna) of Red Bluff, CA, and Cora Robinson (Mark) of Red Bluff, CA; sixteen grandchildren Hans Buchanan, Barry Buchanan, Heidi Wright, Benjamin Clark, Timothy Clark, Camille Tippe, Amanda Macy, Andrew Macy, Jennifer Macy, Abigail Sutherland, Katie Christenson, Nathan Christenson, Eliana Christenson, Asa Robinson, Serena Robinson, Samara Robinson; and sixteen great-grandchildren David Clark, Peter Clark, Chloe Clark, Maxwell Clark, Jadon Buchanan, Jared Buchanan, Elisha Buchanan, Annie Wright, Caroline Wright, William Wright, Tucker Wright, Barrett Sutherland, Charlotte Macy, Titus Robinson, Micah Robinson, and Clara Robinson.
Wesley will be greatly missed. His gentle, kind-hearted nature, quick wit, willingness to help, and steadfast faith were hallmarks of his life here on earth. His family is comforted knowing that he is resting peacefully in the presence of his Lord and Saviour whom he trusted and served for so many years.
