1928 - 2014
Beloved mother and grandmother, Evelyn Mae Cahoon passed away on June 18, 2014 at the age of 86.
Evelyn was born on March 4, 1928 in Guide Rock, Nebraska to John & Alda Watt. At a tender, young age they moved to Long Beach, CA in the 1930's. It was here, where she met and married the "love of her life," Dare Cahoon in 1948. In their early tenure of marriage, they uprooted the family out of southern CA, and relocated to a three hundred sixty-five acre ranch in Oak Run, CA. It is here, where all the children were taught Godly values and the meaning of hard work. Together they raised the family until they moved to Redding in the early 1970's.
For twenty years, Dare and Evelyn were members of the First Baptist Church, where Dare served as an elder, and Evelyn loved to sing in the choir!
Dare and Evelyn's dream became a reality when they purchased their oceanfront home in Yachats, OR. It is here, where Dare and Evelyn had a love for the arts, and enjoyed beautiful ocean strolls at their leisure. Evelyn was an instrumental member of the Presbyterian Church for nearly thirty years in Yachats, OR. It was here, where this loyal, patient, and dedicated wife sent the love of her life, Dare, home to be with the Lord.
A few of Evelyn's talents and hobbies she enjoyed were artistically toll painting, needle crafting never ending Christmas stockings for family members, quilting, singing and playing the organ, playing and dominating card games, endlessly fitting puzzle pieces together, and baking scrumptious meals and desserts for her hungry family!
Evelyn moved back to Redding in 2012 and was a resident at River Oaks Retirement Community. It is here, where she developed a love for Haagen Daz ice cream bars, and was a champion Bingo player! It was told on her final day, she had won the elusive blackout at the Bingo table!
Evelyn is survived by three sons and one daughter: Gary Cahoon, Glenn Cahoon, Craig Cahoon, and Teresa Starr. Additionally, she had ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three surviving loving sisters: Trudy Nickerson, Mildred Grisham, & Mary Ellen Pfyer. Lastly, she had many great nieces & nephews.
Evelyn has left a legacy of warming the hearts of all those who entered her presence. She was a Godly woman who loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. Her smile, laughter, and love was a blessing which made this world a better place.
She will forever be remembered with great love and affection!
