running water and strengthened by the bond of sibling camaraderie.

1960, marking the first significant milestone in her educational journey. Driven by ambition,
a belief in her by her uncle Thomas and aunt Lucille Grant and a desire to excel, Hilda
enrolled at Massey Draughon Business School in Montgomery, Alabama.
During her time at Massey Draughon, Hilda experienced a blend of academic rigor and
social camaraderie. She lived in a boarding house with about twelve other girls, forming
friendships that would last a lifetime. Yet, her time in Montgomery was not without its
challenges.
A Tragic Christmas Break
On a fateful Christmas break in 1961, Hilda was traveling back to Montgomery with Mrs.
Myrtice Lowery and her daughter, Betty Sue. The joy of the holiday season was abruptly
shattered when they were hit head-on by another young man. The tragic accident claimed
the lives of Mrs. Lowery and Betty Sue, leaving Hilda with a broken collarbone, a broken
nose, and lacerations on her forehead. She was rushed to Stabler Hospital in Greenville,
where she was hospitalized and endured a period of recovery filled with sorrow and
physical challenges.
Career and Love in Montgomery
After graduating from business school, Hilda was hired by Nolan Companies Electric
Department in Montgomery. Her role at Nolan Companies allowed her to apply her skills
and make significant contributions to the company. It was during her tenure in Montgomery
that Hilda met Gale Fowler, a charming young man stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base.
A Blossoming Romance
Hilda and Gale's romance blossomed quickly, leading to their marriage on November 4,
1961. Their union was blessed with the birth of their son, Mark Anthony Fowler, on October
2, 1962. The joy of starting a family was accompanied by new adventures and challenges.
A New Chapter in California
After Gale's service in the Air Force concluded, the Fowler family moved to Thousand Oaks,
California. Embracing their entrepreneurial spirit, Hilda and Gale opened an archery shop
that became a cornerstone of the community. They offered archery classes and organized
tournaments, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among local enthusiasts.
