In Loving Memory of Janet Hill
January 30, 1953 – June 7, 2025
Janet Hill, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on June 7, 2025, in Mt. Shasta, California, at the age of 72. Born on January 30, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Raymond and Opal Leap, Janet lived a life defined by love, resilience, and generosity.
Janet graduated from Oak Grove High School in San Jose, CA in 1970. She was married for 54 years to the love of her life, Edburn Hill, a bond of deep devotion and partnership that stood strong through every chapter of life. Together, they built a lasting legacy centered around family, faith, and hard work. They moved to Dunsmuir, CA in 1980 to build a better life for their family. She owned a children's clothing store for several years called The Kids Caboose, where her warm smile and friendly nature made every customer feel welcome.
Janet served as an Administrator and Vice President for her father’s and husband’s manufacturing businesses in the Bay Area and Northern California. She had a sharp mind, unshakable work ethic, and was respected by everyone who worked alongside her.
Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. She was fortunate to spend so much time with her grandkids in their younger years; time she treasured beyond measure. Her favorite places to spend time with family were Disneyland and the California and Oregon coasts, especially the West Coast Game Park Safari in Bandon, OR where she got to hold baby bears and tigers.
Janet had a heart as big as the world. She never met a stranger and would give her last penny if it meant making someone else’s life better. During her final months in and out of the hospital, she continued to show her deep compassion and warmth by learning the names of all her caregivers, asking about their families, and even sharing recipes with them. Her compassion and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
A passionate animal lover, Janet had a heart for all creatures great and small. From the countless cats and dogs she cared for through the years to her boundless empathy for animals of every kind. Among her many joys in life was a special bond with a bear she affectionately named Yogi, who frequently visited her porch. She delighted in talking to Yogi through her Ring camera, a testament to her unique and gentle spirit.
Janet was a warrior in every sense of the word. She faced numerous rare autoimmune diseases with courage, dignity, and an unyielding will to live. Toward the end of her life, she was fortunate to explore Sonoma and Napa with her family, outings that brought her immense joy and a sense of renewal after all she had endured. She never wanted to give up; she fought bravely for years, but in the end, her body could no longer carry the weight of the fight. Her spirit, however, remained strong and full of love until her final moments. Janet will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, her fierce love for her family, and her unwavering generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of love and selflessness that will live on through the many lives she touched.
Janet is survived by her husband, Edburn Hill; children: Kymberly Koschnick (Kile), Jason Hill, and Trixie Roy (Dave); her grandchildren: Chloe Koschnick, Brice Koschnick, Sadie Roy, Lain Roy, Mikel Roy, Joshua Roy, Tiffany Orgill, Thomas Fazzio, Nicholas Fazzio, Maureen Fazzio, Sabrina Fazzio, and Taylor Hill, sisters Jacquie Starr (Neil) and Jeanne Leap, numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren who all brought her endless pride and joy.
She is preceded in death by her daughters, Sonja Fazzio and Roxana Hill, whom she always held close in her heart.
A funeral will be held on July 1, 2025 at McDonald’s Chapel in Redding, CA. In lieu of flowers please consider sending a donation to one of the local animal rescues that Janet loved - Mack’s Heart Haven in Weed, Rescue Ranch in Yreka, or S.N.A.P. in Palo Cedro.
