John H. Carlton, 90, of Burney, California, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Vistas Assisted Living in Redding, California. John was born in Singer, Louisiana on April 25,1927, to Dr. Arthur and Dulcina Carlton, as one of five children.
John graduated from Singer High School in 1945 and later joined the Army Air Corps the same year. John met and married Naomi in January of 1953 when he was working as an agent for the Apache Railroad in McNary, Arizona.
His career with the railroad took him and his family to Burney, California in 1955, where he worked for the McCloud River Railroad for 32 years. In 1967, John started cutting household size Christmas trees to supplement the family’s income, which turned into “Carlton Christmas Trees”. Carlton Christmas Trees is still operating today by his two sons along with other business ventures.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Don and Webb Carlton. He is survived by his loving wife, Naomi Carlton, his daughter: Linda Randall of Fort Collins, CO; two sons: James and Leslie Carlton; grandchildren: Michele Petersen of Redding, CA; Jamie Lozoya, Anderson, CA; Alecia Carlton of Redding, CA; Tyler Carlton of Vacaville, CA; Derrick Carlton of Burney, CA; Ashley Carlton of Chico, CA; Maggie Carlton of Montgomery Creek, CA and great-grandsons: Jordan Petersen, Justus Petersen, Alex Lozoya, Boston Carlton, and Jackson Carlton.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Intermountain Baptist Church, 20410 Marquette Street, Burney, CA.
