

Windell Curtis, a longtime resident of Anderson, CA passed away on January 27, 2015. Windell was born on November 10, 1922 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Mary Ida Henry and Benton T. Curtis. He grew up in Graton, California as one of ten kids and attended Oak Grove Grammar School. In 1949 Windell moved his family to Northern California where he received a job as a machine operator for U.S. Plywood. He spent 37+ years working at the mill until he retired in 1985. Windell was a ball-turret gunner aboard a B17 in the U.S. Army Air Corp 8th Air Force during World War II. He flew in 26 missions and received military honors, such as an air medal with three Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement while participating in heavy bombardment missions in the air offensive against the enemy over Continental Europe. Windell later became a member of AMVETS Association. He had a great love of the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Windell is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Della Rose Curtis, and his son Charles "Alan" Curtis of Old Station, CA. He is survived by his eldest son Don Curtis and his wife Diann of Old Station, his daughter-in-law Deborah Curtis of Old Station and one sister La Verne Robison from Toledo, Oregon. Windell had five grandchildren and eight great-grandkids. He was loved and will be missed greatly!A memorial service will be held on February 6, 2015 at the McDonalds Chapel, 1275 Continental Street, Redding, CA 96001 in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. A viewing will available that morning from 10am to Noon.
