Ellen Nora Perkins

Ellen Nora Perkins, age 85, passed away in Midlothian, Virginia on January 15, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, William “Bill” Perkins. She was predeceased by ten siblings. She is survived by her son Wade (Laura), Sharon Crockett (Billy), four grandchildren, Sally Perkins Tate (Nate), Emily Perkins Schindler ( Matt), Jasper Castle, Kelsey Castle Tilton(John) and by ten great grandchildren, Braelyn, William, Grace, Greyson, Lizzie, Abel, Noah, Maddy, Alanna and Hannah.

Growing up in South Hill, Virginia, she worked on the family tobacco farm until she met and married Bill Perkins, her soulmate. They moved to Sandston, Virginia and lived there for most of their lives. She worked at the DMV, Southland Life Insurance and Life of Georgia Insurance Company until she retired .

Ellen loved worshipping at Ft. Lee Baptist Church, where she became friends with Pastor Michael Jordan. She also enjoyed listening to her husband and his friends play bluegrass music around town and at many music festivals. She particularly enjoyed the sounds of “Churchyard Grass” and Amy Ladd in more recent years.

She maintained longtime close friendships with Judy, Carolyn, Ethel and Candy, who loved to shop, lunch and take day trips. Her neighbors in Sandston were longtime and cherished friends. She was very devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed seeing pictures, having visits and talking on the phone with them whenever possible.

Services for Ellen will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 4650 S.Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA, 23231 on Thursday, January 23rd. Visitation from 10:30-11:30, Funeral Services at 11:30.
