George Graham Smoot, 74, of Quinton, VA passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran and was retired after 33 years of service with Diebold, Inc. He enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and fishing and was a lover of antique cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Verlin and Vella Grace Johnson Smoot and is survived by his son, Leslie George of Zebulon, NC; two daughters, Lisa Carole Motley (Steve) of Clayton, NC and Laura Sue Couch (Andy) of New Kent, VA; seven grandchildren; sister, Virginia Newman (Forest); and two brothers, Charles Smoot (Shirley) and Sam Smoot (Veronica). The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 24, at 2 p.m. at Monta Vista Memorial Gardens, Galax, VA.
