

He was born in 1942 to Julia A. Wells and Odis Wells. Gerald (Jerry) attended John Marshall High School and Oak Hill Academy. He served in the Marine Corp from 1960 to 1969 attached to the 2nd Marine Division as a MCI Forward Observer in Vietnam. His decorations/medals include: Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V” and one Gold Star, Good Conduct Medal with one Bronze Star, Marine Corp Expeditionary Medal (Cuba) and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba) Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color with Palm). He was employed by Firestone as a Territory Representative and later managed the Firestone location in Petersburg, Va. where he retired in 2002.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline C. Wells; niece, Catherine S. Belch; his wife’s niece, Jacqueline C. Russell (Derick); great nephews, Calvin and Damian Russell; and sister-in-law by marriage, Jennifer Creasy Webb (Kent). He will be missed by many cherished friends. Jerry enjoyed dancing, time with family, golf, and many hours with his beloved wife, Jackie.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 14, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park. A reception will follow the burial at Nelsen Reception Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
