IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory
Jerry Frank Salmon was "born on a firecracker" (his words) in Farmville, VA on July 4, 1947 to Jack and Dolly Dalton Salmon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a special aunt Virginia Freeman, who was known as his "second mother", and a nephew, Marshall Salmon. He is survived by his brothers Jack and James (Jimmy), "sissie-law" Mary Salmon, nieces Laura Salmon Glantz and Karin Salmon, nephew Andrew Salmon and their mother Susan Salmon. Also surviving are cousins and many, many friends.
Jerry faced many health issues, both mental and physical, but was loved by so many. He wanted to serve God to the best of his ability and his prayers always included thoughts of our ministers and church friends. The highlight of his life was being baptized in 2013 and he never quit telling about it to anyone he met. His birthday was always important to him and he enjoyed getting cards with a "Lincoln bill" ($5.00) enclosed.
For the past fifteen years Jerry resided at Green Run Group Home, where he was cared for and loved by his housemates and staff. He attended Hermitage Enterprises, both in the workshop and Life Enrichment Program. He was thrilled to get his little $5.00 (or less) checks at the end of each pay period. He officially "retired" from the workshop when he turned 70, which he referred to as being "untired".
Jerry entered Elizabeth Adam Crump Nursing Home in late August 2019, where he died November 12, 2019.
The family wants to express our thanks to all who were so caring toward Jerry, including staff at Green Run Group Home, Hermitage Enterprises, personnel with Henrico County Social Services, staff at Elizabeth Adam Crump Nursing Home and Hospice of Virginia.
