

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Wilson Davis; her daughter, W. Lauraine Davis; her son, Lucky Davis, her son-in-law, Robert Squillante her parents, Beulah and Edward Rickman; and her brothers, Buck and Roy Rickman.
She is survived by her daughters Pamela Armstrong (Doug), Mary Anne Davis-Turner (Gary), and Joan (Joni) Davis; her brother Oscar Rickman (Joyce); her sister Betty DeLuke (Frank); nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joan never met a stranger and had a gift for finding the good in everyone. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was known as “Mom” and “Nani-Ma” to many beyond her immediate family. Family was the center of her life.
She cherished the years she spent working at Juvenile Bootery where she made lifelong friends.
Joan often reminded others:
“Be kind to strangers, you never know their circumstances.”
In honor of her generous spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to ACTS – Area Congregations Together in Service (actsrva.org) or the next time you see someone asking for help, offer a few dollars, some change, a meal or a moment of kindness and tell them it’s from Nani-Ma.
Family will receive friends, Saturday April 18th from 10-12 at Nelsen Funeral Home-4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231 where a service will immediately follow at 12 noon at the funeral home chapel. Private graveside service.
