

McCall, John Bernard, 73, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2015. John lived a life of service. He graduated from Hopewell High School and immediately joined the Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, Mother wanted to return to northern Minnesota, a move she couldn’t make alone, and John dutifully followed her, taking care of her until her passing. Shortly after her passing, he was seriously injured, and spent his final years in Sitter and Barfoot. John was an avid fisherman, a sport enthusiast, and prior to his injury, a voracious reader. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ronald James and Bergleot Elizabeth McCall. He is survived by his brothers, Jim (Polly) McCall, Michael (Maureen) McCall, Tom (Sally) McCall and sister, Margaret M. Linden; nieces, Shannon McCall, Bethany Linden, Stacy (Don) Bowers and their children, Nate and Maredeth; nephews, Nathan (Fadia) and their son, Jonathan, and Mark (Joy) and their children, Jordyn and Dylan; he is also survived by many friends, especially Teddy Fett, who will all miss him dearly. The family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Sunday, November 8, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 9 at 10am at Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd. Mechanicsville, VA 23116. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either The Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org, or your local SPCA.
