IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory
SATTELMAIER, Joseph “Joe”, 92, of Croatia joined his heavenly maker on Sunday, March 31, 2019. He was a long time resident of Sandston, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents Aloisa and Johann; sisters, Olga and Mara and is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Sofia; sisters, Josephine and Anka; sons, John (Lynn) and Michael; grandchildren, Tracey (Nick), Joe (Stephanie), Judge, and Journey; and five amazing great-grandchildren, Trey, Jack, Logan, Kate, and Gavin. In 1957 Joe moved his family and journeyed to America from Yugoslavia in pursuit of a better life. With no knowledge of the English language and equipped with only a few packed bags, his elderly parents, wife and two young sons, he bravely began pursuing the American dream. As the patriarch of his family, Joe’s success in the years that followed not only paved the way for more family to come to America but became a testament to the man he was; devout, steadfast, courageous, stern and most importantly, loved by all. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23231. where a service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park.
