Obituary of Mary Anne Nelson
Mary Anne Nelson, following a brave battle with cancer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and recently great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. She was a Christian and active member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Monroe Taylor; mother, Mary Southworth Taylor; brothers, Richard Taylor Jr., David R. Taylor; and sister, Bessie Brown. She is survived by her devoted husband, Henry Nelson; children, Todd Doggett (Sarah), Anthony Doggett, Angela Williams; stepsons, Robert Nelson, John Nelson; grandchildren, Taylor (Caitlin), Troy (Alle), Christopher (Ashley), Kyle Doggett, Trace and Ashley Williams; stepgrandchildren, Gabrielle Dunham, Brian Nelson; great-grandchildren, Emmy and Haeisleigh Doggett; sister, Ida May Nelson; many nieces and nephews; and her special sister-in-law, Jean Taylor. Her children will remember her as a dedicated Mom who always encouraged their activities and passions, loved them unconditionally and served as a supportive and caring person, who was always there to listen, talk and mentor them. Mary Anne was born in Caroline County, Va. (Penola), on September 25, 1946 and after her marriage to Henry Nelson (1982), she moved to Henrico Co., Va. (Varina). She began her work career with Froehling and Robertson and retired from the payroll department at Dominion Energy in 2010. She loved flowers and always added new plants to her collection. She was a former member of the Varina Women’s Club and the Varina Forum. Mary Anne was also an active member of the Women’s Connection at Four Mile Creek Church and The Old Dominion Model A Ford Club. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 24, at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church, 2950 New Market Rd., Richmond, Va. 23231. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va. In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.
