Born on April 12, 1954, in Lisburn, Ireland, Richard grew up and discovered his passion for traveling at a young age. He traveled to many Countries in his younger years and across the World before finding his forever home in the United States.
Richard loved his family and the outdoors. You could always find him in his garden or doing yard work in his free time or watching his favorite Soccer Match. He had a witty sense of humor and was always one with playing the practical joke and could bring a smile to any situation. To his granddaughters, Melanie and Mariah, he will always be known affectionately as "Precious."
Richard was also a beloved figure in the soccer community, both as a player and a coach. Known for his kindness, humor, and pride, he deeply influenced many young athletes in Richmond. To his soccer mentees, he was "Coach." A fervent supporter of Manchester United, Richard was quick to remind everyone that the correct term was "football," not soccer.
Richard dedicated 36 years of service to Henrico County Public Schools as a Design Draftsman and assisted in the design of several schools, and as a Labor Force Trades Supervisor before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Kamie J. Curry; sons, Steven P. Curry and John R. Curry; stepsons, David F. Stone III and Logan R. Dowdy; sister, Rosemary Lockhart (Rodney); sister-in-law, Kellie J. Floyd (Keith); father and mother-in-law, Robert & Sherry Baber; granddaughters, Melanie and Mariah Stone; and numerous nephews and nieces both in the U.S. and Ireland. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John “Jack” Curry and Sarah Ann Curry.
Richard will be escorted to his final resting place alongside his parents in Ireland. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, Richmond, VA. 23231. His legacy in his personal, professional field and the soccer community will be remembered by all who knew him.
Our family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff at Compassus Hospice Care for assisting Richard and our family during this time.
