Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Brodin and Ruth Dvorak Brodin, as well as his brother-in-law, Robert Arthur "Bob" Nelson. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Nelson; his niece, Britt McPhail, and her husband, Tory. His niece's beloved Frenchies, affectionately called "The Boneses"—Sherlock Bones (deceased), Indiana Bones, and Capt. Jack Marrow—were also dear to him.
Sam was a passionate fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Denver Broncos. His love for music was evident as he sang in the church choir, bringing joy to those around him with his voice. He cherished the time he spent with his friends, creating lasting memories.
A celebration of Sam's life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, located at 5270 Charles City Rd., Richmond, VA 23231. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
