

Woodell Ellsworth Brooks “Woody”, 67 of Amelia Courthouse Virginia passed away on January 21, 2016. Woody was born on January 26, 1948, in Richmond, VA, son of Hugh W. Brooks and Marjorie T. Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a member of the U.S. Naval Construction Forces, the “Seabee’s,” during the Vietnam War. From his time with the Seabee’s, Woody developed a talent and love for heavy equipment repair. He opened his business, Amelia Equipment Repair, in the fall of 1978, which was operational for over 20 years. He would be a skilled mechanic throughout his life. After earning his certifications as an EMT and Cardiac Technician, Woody served as a Paramedic for the Richmond Ambulance Authority starting in 1993. He also served as a paramedic with Medical Transport, L.L.C. Woody was a partner, mentor, and leader to all those around him in the many outlets of his life. Woody was married to his wife Olene H. Brooks for 21 years. He is survived by his sister, Pamela E. Brooks, his son Corey K. Brooks, his daughter, JoyAh K. Brooks, and his step-daughters Sherri William, Stephanie Caudill, and Sheila Smith. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shawntae, Zacherie, Ashton, Dee Dee, CJ, and Zion, who lovingly referred to him as, “Pop.” Services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 4 at the Nelsen Funeral Home Laburnum Chapel in Richmond, VA. Burial Services will be at the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Amelia, VA. Receptions will follow at the Amelia Volunteer Rescue Squad building. Family will receive family and friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and again at 6 – 8 p.m. at Nelsen’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Woody may be made to the Amelia Volunteer Rescue Squad.
