It is with profound sadness, yet with hearts filled with gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Helen Irene Ogilvie, on Monday, October 19th, 2026, at the age of 98. Mom passed away in her own home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mom was our shining light, and our cherished matriarch. Her family was always her highest priority, and she made sure we all knew how deeply we were loved. She lived her life with unconditional love, kindness, gentleness, and a wonderful appreciation for laughter and song. Her love was steady and unwavering, and the warmth she brought into our lives will remain with us forever.
Mom spent 45 years in her beloved “Ogilvie Homestead,” the home she and Dad built together in 1981. This special place holds countless memories of family, friendship, and love. It was more than a house; it was the heart of our family and a place where so many treasured moments unfolded. For many years, Linda lovingly supported Mom in her home, bringing her comfort and companionship and helping her remain in the place she loved so dearly.
Mom leaves behind her loving son, Tim (Lola), and cherished daughter, Linda. She was a proud grandmother to Mary Helen (Paul), Matthew (Marta), Mark (Michelle), Thomas (Sarah), Adam (Stephanie), Rachael (Dylan), and Rebecca (Ken). Her eight beloved great-grandchildren, Ethan, Clara, Henry, Lucas, Evin, Townsend, Declan, and Isabelle, adored their GG with all their hearts. They brought her immense joy, and the special bond they shared will always be treasured. She is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom (2006); her dear son, David (2023); her parents, Ernst and Mildred Miller; her sister, Ethel Woehl (2018); her brother, Austin Miller (2025); her parents-in-law, Harold and Marjory Ogilvie; her sisters-in-law, Helen Miller and Millie Ogilvie; and her brothers-in-law, Ted Ogilvie and Russell Woehl.
Mom’s story began on the Miller family farm, where she developed the strong work ethic and sense of responsibility that stayed with her throughout her life. She remembered each morning carrying milk from the farm to SS #6 (one room school house) on Ridgemount Road, so the entire school could have a lunchtime snack.
Music was another lifelong love. From a young age, Mom discovered her passion for singing, and her beautiful soprano voice led her to participate in community choirs. Music brought her great happiness, and she passed that love along to her family, leaving us with a legacy that will continue through the generations.
After graduating from Fort Erie High School, Mom began her working life. Following her marriage to Dad in 1948, she worked at Fleet and later held secretarial positions with Wilsolite, Parklane Bowling, and Niagara View Real Estate. She approached her work and responsibilities with the same dedication and quiet determination that characterized so much of her life.
Mom and Dad shared many interests and adventures. They loved gardening (especially growing tomatoes) and enjoyed creating things together, including handmade brooms, quilts, and knitted treasures. Mom even earned her amateur radio license, joining Dad in his hobby. Their shared love of travel took them from coast to coast across Canada, as well as to England, Florida, and Arizona.
Mom’s life was also enriched by the many special friends, who surrounded her and helped support her at home over the years. We are deeply grateful to Liz, Linda and Lois, along with the wonderful personal support workers and nurses from Bayshore, St. Elizabeth, Home Instead, and the Region of Niagara who provided such compassionate and professional care, especially Alicia, Cindy and Shelley. To Dr Scher, thank you for the exceptional care, kindness and dedication that you showed to Mom.
We are equally grateful to the entire St John’s Anglican Church community for the love, prayers, and support offered to mom and to our family. Mom was a lifelong member of St John’s, a congregation that remained an important part of her life.
Mom was our guiding light, the heart of our family, and a constant reminder that the greatest legacy we can leave is the love we give to others.
