I was one of the fortunate beekeepers who had the privilege of being mentored by Lawrence. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable about bees, but also deeply knowledgeable about the natural environment that nurtured them.
As we approached the apiary, I could feel the peace and harmony of nature surrounding us. When we opened each hive, the aroma of honey filled us with excitement as the bees continued diligently at their assigned tasks. Lawrence patiently explained each step and encouraged me as I learned and took on each new task.
He was generous with his time and truly gifted as an educator. I learned many things from him that I continue to practice in my own apiary today. I am deeply grateful for the time he devoted to my education and for helping to strengthen my love and appreciation for bees.
Lawrence shared not only his knowledge, but also his passion for beekeeping and the natural world. I will always be grateful for the lessons he taught me and for the opportunity to have learned from him.

Lawrence was one of the founding members of the Beekeepers Association of Regional Niagara in the mid-1980s. The organization is still active today under the name Niagara Beekeepers’ Association and will be returning to its original name, in part to honour Lawrence and his contributions.
A true pioneer in the beekeeping industry, Lawrence initiated and promoted a mentorship program for beginner beekeepers in the early 1990s. At the time, mentorship was not commonly practiced among beekeepers, but Lawrence recognized its value long before others did. Today, mentorship has become an important and valued resource for those beginning their beekeeping journey.
Lawrence was also ahead of his time when he predicted that the varroa mite would become a serious problem for beekeepers and lead to significant colony losses. Sadly, his prediction proved to be correct.
Many beekeepers today were fortunate to have been mentored by Lawrence, and they remain deeply grateful for the knowledge, experience, and guidance he so generously shared. His influence on the beekeeping community will continue for generations.
Lawrence will be greatly missed by all of us, but his contributions to beekeeping and the many lives he touched will never be forgotten.
May you rest in peace, Lawrence, and may you always smile upon the apiaries.

Anyone who knew dad knew of his humour. 
A few days before dad passed away we spoke of the first time I had supper at the farm with him and mom. I was just finishing my plate of food when dad came over with the pot of mashed potatoes and ask if I wanted more. I graciously declined but dad went ahead and scooped the last bit on my plate and told me to eat it, because he didn’t like left overs. Being only 16, and not wanting to disappoint.  I did as I was told, even though Jason and mom both told me I didn’t have to eat the extra mashed potatoes. During this reminiscing, a little of dad’s humour emerged and dad looked at me and said  “Oh so that explains why you look the way you look now." I told him "that’s right I will forever blame my  chunkiness on you, dad" 😂🤣

I feel very fortunate to have known Lawrence as a mentor when I began my beekeeping journey a few years ago. He was kind, generous with his knowledge, and always willing to come out to Wainfleet to help me.

I have fond memories of him and Kay sitting with me after going through the hives, enjoying a ginger ale and sharing stories about bees and life. He was an absolute pleasure to talk to, and I learned so much from him. My condolences to his family.

Sad to hear of Lawrence's passing
I worked with Lawrence since 1984 until he retired from JTL Machine . 
Lawrence was well liked by  his fellow co-workers!
I will always remember him with a smile on my face.
