December 31, 1951 – September 18, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn "Jane" Sek on September 18, 2026, at the age of 74.
Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, John Sek, and her children Jennifer (Ray), Jay (Deanna), Sabrina (Rob), Adrienne (Allen), Andrew, and Samantha (Josh).
She was a very proud grandmother to Francesca, Mikayla, Eric, and Georgia, and cherished every moment she shared with them. Her family was at the heart of her life, and she leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories for her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jane was predeceased by her beloved parents, Murdoch Miller and Alice Miller (Atkinson), and by her grandson, Robert John Smylie (Bobby). She was also the daughter-in-law of Stanislaw and Lilian Sek.
Jane will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Anne Manuel (Tom), Susan Anderson (Neil), Gail Greenhalgh (Dave), Karen Adams (Steve), and Judy Evans (Greg); her brothers-in-law Michael Sek (Linda), Steven Sek (Lise), and Paul Sek; and her many nieces and nephews.
Jane lived a life filled with curiosity, creativity, adventure, and a deep appreciation for history. Her travels took her around the world, including time working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kabul, Afghanistan. She also loved travelling for pleasure and had a particular fondness for places such as Sri Lanka and Great Britain.
Her love of history was deeply connected to her family. Following in the footsteps of her father, Murdoch, Jane travelled to Wick, Scotland, his birthplace, where she explored the history surrounding his life and experiences during the Second World War. Her passion for history even led her to participate, somewhat reluctantly, as a reenactor at War of 1812 and WWII events.
Jane was also an incredibly creative and talented woman. An entrepreneur and avid seamstress, she enjoyed work with Parks Canada and Niagara Parks. She loved knitting and quilting, finding great joy in creating beautiful things with her hands. She also had a big soft spot for her beloved cats.
Above all, Jane was a woman who loved her family. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, and her family will forever carry the memories of her unique personality, her wonderful stories, her creativity, her sense of humour, and her love of travel.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Walker Cancer Center, with special thanks to Dr. Dinniwell and Dr. Scher, as well as to the compassionate team at Douglas Memorial Palliative Care, for their care and support.
As per Jane’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Rite of Committal will be held at the Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery, 3900 Farr Rd. in Ridgeway on Monday November 2nd at 11 a.m. Everyone is most welcome to attend at the Cemetery and to gather for a Celebration of Jane’s Life at the Ridgeway Legion, 228 S Mill St. in Ridgeway, with words of remembrance starting at 12:00 pm. The service at the cemetery and the Legion will be livestreamed, please see Williams Funeral Services website for the livestream link. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory may be made to Hospice Niagara
Jane’s memory will live on in the family she loved, the places she travelled, the history she cherished, and the many lives she touched.
