With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sandra, who peacefully passed away at home in Crystal Beach, Ontario, on October 21, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of her family on a beautiful sunny day.
Sandra was the beloved wife of Russell Pooler for 42 wonderful years. She was a devoted and proud mother to Jane (John) Pakrul, James (Veronica) Pepper, and Julieann (Todd) Smith, and a loving stepmother to Geoff (Kathy) Pooler, Clarke (Penny) Pooler, and Lorrin Ledwell (Bruce). She was a cherished grandmother to 14 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren.
Sandra is survived by her sisters Yvonne (Wayne) Ramsey, Judith (Tom) Boyer, and Manette (Phil) Brown, and was predeceased by her brother Raymond Sturm. She was also a beloved aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and dear friend to many whose lives were enriched by her kindness and warmth.
She was predeceased by her father, Herman Sturm; her mother, Beatrice Grace (Lang) Stire; and her stepfather, Roy Stire.
Born on February 11, 1941, in Buffalo, New York, Sandra graduated from Bishop O’Hern High School. Throughout her life, she held several positions, including roles at Douglas Memorial Hospital, as a lunch-hour supervisor at Crystal Beach Public School, and at McDonald’s, where she enjoyed connecting with people and brightening their day.
Sandra never met a stranger. A true social butterfly, she loved to sing, dance with her sisters, and share long conversations with family and friends. She found joy in baking, watching birds, spending time with loved ones, and taking lakeside drives with Russell, often with an Iced Capp in hand. Weekly lunches with her sisters were among her favourite traditions, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sandra's radiant smile, generous spirit, heart of gold, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Williams Funeral Services have been entrusted with arrangements. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, October 29, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 12:00 noon at Williams Funeral Services, Ridgeway, Ontario.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Che, the caring staff at Boggio & Edwards Ridgeway, Sandra's personal support workers, especially Bonnie, and her nurse Barbara, for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided throughout her journey. We could not have navigated this path without you.
We are also deeply grateful to our friends, neighbors, and extended family for their kindness, prayers, support, and countless acts of generosity during this difficult time. Your love and encouragement brought comfort and strength when it was needed most, and it will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sandra's memory to the Fort Erie SPCA.
