Barbara (Barb) Diane Werkman was born on December 30, 1940 in Detroit Michigan. She graduated from Royal Oak Kimball High School in 1958. Shortly after, in 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Rick Werkman and they had 55 wonderful years together before his passing in 2015. They began raising their family of 3 children ( Kim, Wendi and Mike), in Warren, Michigan before eventually moving to Oakland Township.
Barb was talented and creative and threw herself wholeheartedly into projects, whether creating a home made ice rink in the backyard, deciding to dye the living room carpet, trying her hand at a new recipe or sewing our school clothes and Halloween costumes. She was an accomplished seamstress and in 1988 she partnered with her daughter, Wendi and opened the Werk Shoppe Alterations shop in downtown Rochester.
Barb and Rick also loved spending time at their “cottage” in Caseville, Michigan and they always looked forward to their family and friends visiting. Barb also loved entertaining at their home in Oakland Township, whether for elaborate dinners or impromptu gatherings. She also took pleasure in decorating the house for Christmas and hosting the extended family for the holiday.
Barb is survived by her children Kim (Christopher) Werkman-Howe, Wendi Werkman and Mike (Laura) Werkman; her grandchildren Rachael Werkman, Ryan Werkman, Michael Werkman and Samuel Howe; and five great great grandchildren; and her sister Patricia Hubbard.
