Charles was born on November 28, 1933, in Detroit, son of the late Maurice and Susan Crombez. He grew up and graduated from high school in Detroit, and then married Natalie Coble on July 25, 1953. He had worked for several manufacturing facilities while becoming an Electrical Draftsman and then joined General Motors where he worked for many years until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting with his wife Natalie, and they would travel to many states hunting all sorts of wild game. They enjoyed their cabin in Lewiston, and would invite family to spend time and to hunt the fields with them. Charles could often be found at Garage Sales and Flea Markets looking to add to his antique collection. An avid collector of hunting equipment, He also enjoyed selling the equipment as much as buying.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his dear wife of 70 years, Natalie. Also preceding him in death is his daughter Gail Johnson in 1997, and a grandson, Robbie Platter.
Charles is survived by: his children Linda (Larry) Binkowski, Gloria Craven, Yvonne (Jeff) Smart, Sharon (Bill) Byers, and Lisa (Dwayne) Lagrou; grandchildren Angela Binkowski, Lance Johnson, Jr., Jennifer (Robert) Evans, Ricky Platter, Susie Platter, David (Kelly) Smart, Eric Smart, Nicole Deavers, Tiffany (Neil) Nightingale, Shelby (Kody) Montgomery, Joshua Lagrou and Samantha Lagrou. Also survived by several great grandchildren, a brother, Richard Crombez and a sister Eileen (Kerry) Perry.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, 11 am at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 771 Old Perch Rd. in Rochester Hills. Fr. Gerry LeBoeuf officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Van Hoosen Jones-Stoney Creek Cemetery.
