

Daniel is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Evonda Machir, and their two children Chaye Machir and Chris Machir. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Machir-Lansky (Daran)and his grandchildren: Kacy Machir, Morgan Lansky, Daniel Machir, Ian Machir and Dustin Machir.
Daniel enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 in 1951. During his first 4 years he served on the USS Electron in the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service medal, National Defense medal, and the United Nations Service medals. He re-enlisted in 1963 after going to college and obtaining a Bachelor’s in Clinical Psychology. During his military career the majority of his time was spent as a clinical psychologist. He also taught behavioral sciences at the Naval Academy from 1969 to 1973. He retired a United States Naval Commander in 1979. Daniel continued on to earn an EED (Educational Doctorate) from Wayne State University in 1991.
After Daniel's retirement from the Navy, he ran the JROTC programs at Roseville and Murray Wright high school in Michigan until 1993. He retired in Southern Indiana after helping create an aircraft maintenance program for high schoolers in the area while running the JROTC program at Shawnee high school. Beyond the military he was known as an accomplished pilot and sailor. He sailed in the Mackinaw race, and he built his own aircraft that he used as a small aircraft instructor.
Daniel loved America, the Navy, the waters and the skies, the moon and sunsets, and his family and friends.
A military service will be held in his honor at 12:30 PM, on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Great Lakes National Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at The Fenton House Restaurant, 413 S Leroy St, Fenton, MI 48430.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either US Veterans charity, Wounded Warrior Project or DAV(Disabled American Veterans), or the Michigan Parkinson's Foundation.
