He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 6, 1931.
Don graduated from Murray-Wright High School, after which he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Mary Carolan on April 24, 1954.
Don was employed for 42 years at Detroit Edison. He had a passion for model railroading, camping, gardening, photography, and travel. He also had a passion for mentoring young men in scouting and volunteering for anything his church needed. He was a true humanitarian.
Don is predeceased by his parents Oscar and Elizabeth Couturier and brother-in-laws Charles Hayes and Frank Carolan. In addition to his wife of 68 years Mary, he is survived by children Kathleen (Ed) Papes, Doreen (Mike) Cricelli, and Ed, Phillip (Tami), Paul (Julie), and Jim (Brenda) Couturier; grandchildren Stacy (Matt) Wallach, Matt (Humayra) and Sean Papes, Todd, Ryan (Sarah), and Caitlyn Cricelli, Melissa and Joshua Gaudette, and Casey, Sydney, Jackie, Brooke, and Dylan Couturier; great-grandchildren Dylan and Connor Wallach, and Avery and Cameron Cricelli; and his sister Ruth Hayes and sister-in-law Agnes Carolan along with many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Don will be held at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester, Michigan on Friday August 26, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Hills Roman Catholic Church on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 11:00 am. Don will be laid to rest with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan following the mass.
