Edward Franklin Shell, Jr., 71 years old, loving son of Edward Franklin Shell, Sr. and Imogene (Myers) Shell, the always protective brother of Nina Lynnette (Gelaude) Shell and loyal friend to many passed away on February 16, 2022.
Edward, known to many as Frank, was born on a warm and breezy fall day in Weber City, Virginia on October 10, 1950. He and his older sister Nina, also known as Lynn, enjoyed their childhood surrounded by many loving family members and friends.
In the late 1950’s, the Shell family moved to a house on Hull Street in the city of Detroit and that September Edward became the “new kid” in the second grade at the Greenfield Park Elementary School. Amazingly, friendships made that year would last right up until Ed’s passing.
In the mid 1960’s the Shell family was once again on the move, this time to the city of Ferndale to a street called Chesterfield. Edward completed a ninth grade stint at Noland Junior High School and then onto Ferndale High where he graduated in 1969. From there it was off to Lawrence Institute of Technology to study Engineering.
All along the way Edward, with his charismatic charm, incredible wit, caring nature and unquestioning loyalty, continued to develop friendships that would last a lifetime.
While a mere sixteen years of age, Edward began working as a draftsman at the Danbee Corporation which led him to a career in the automotive industry where he developed a reputation as the “go-to-guy” for solving drivetrain design issues. Edward retired from the Chrysler Corporation in September of 2014 as a Senior Automotive Design Engineer.
In August of 2000, Edward moved to Rochester Hills, Michigan where he thoroughly enjoyed spending time on his deck watching the deer play in his backyard or just soaking up the sunshine while he admired his wonderful flower and vegetable garden.
Although Edward’s immediate family members had passed away, his mother, Imogene died in 1987 followed by the death of his father Edward Sr. in 2003 and his sister Nina in 2020, he was surrounded by many dear friends that loved him as family.
Edward was very blessed in that he was never alone, lived his life to the fullest and had endless stories to tell to prove it. As he would often say, “I had a great run”.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Edward’s honor at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2022 with a luncheon to follow at CJ Mahoney's in Troy at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the V Foundation at www.v.org to help further research for the cure of prostate cancer.
