Janet was born to Fentress and Lois Stimson on October 6th, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan. Jan had an early love of music, and after high school, she attended Wayne State University, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in music, specifically the Saxophone. After obtaining her bachelors, Jan went on to obtain her master's in education also from Wayne State University. Jan had an incredible career at the Cranbrook school, being a band director, and spent her whole professional life working there, before retiring in 2020. She also taught private lessons for musicians and led a bible study class.
Jan met the love of her life, Mark, in 1973, when they were both working as post office assistants, at the Royal Oak post office. The two were married on August 6, 1977, and spent 48 wonderful years together. The two loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, where they visited yearly. You could often find Jan preparing meticulously for upcoming trips, and following the trips, she would make books detailing the adventures.
Jan was devoted to the lord and her worship, it was a pilar in her life. Jan was an extremely kind and caring woman, always thinking of others, and going the extra mile to ensure that everyone she meet felt appreciated.
Jan is survived by her loving husband Mark, her nephew, Chris Zerbo, and siblings, Dr. Judy Zerbo, and Gary Stimson.
A celebration of life for Jan will be held on Saturday June 7, at 10:00 am, at Christ Church Cranbrook.
