Jean L. Christenson

Jean earned her BS degree in education from Kent State University, and a Master’s in Education from Wayne St. University. She taught elementary education first in the Royal Oak School District, and then the Rochester School District. She also taught regularly in her church’s childrens’ ministries, as well as the AWANA program. Jean had been a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church, then later joined the First Baptist Church of Rochester. She enjoyed gardening, as well as crafting ceramics and latch hook creations. Jean was also an avid reader. She oftentimes could be found ‘canning’ foods with her friends. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her loving family. She will be greatly missed.

On April 9, 1952, Jean married Alfred “Bill” Christenson, and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage until he passed away in 2011. She is survived by: her sons Steve (Debbie) Christenson and Jeff (Gail) Christenson; grandchildren Amanda (Taylor) Springsteen, William (Alexandra) Christenson, Ashley (Drew) Larck, Emily Christenson, Heather Christenson, Daniel Christenson, Rachel Christenson, Hailey Christenson, Lauren Christenson, and Matthew Christenson; Great Grandchildren Hudson Larck, Zoë Christenson, Magnolia Springsteen, Oliver Larck, Juniper Springsteen, and Felix Christenson. She is also survived by her brother, William (Nan) Brew. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her sister Juanita (Arden) Lemponen.

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Rochester, 6377 Orion Road in Rochester Hills. Rev. Tom Townsend officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 am. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery.
