Joe was born the son of Ross and Minnie (Bard) Sanders in South Haven, Michigan on March 18, 1940. He graduated from high school in South Haven, class of 1958 and earned his bachelor degree. Joe began his career at Kmart working his way to merchandiser at Kmart Headquarters in Troy, Michigan. Joe is known best for his long running Sanders Martial Arts dojo in Clarkston, Michigan. He started the dojo in the 1980’s and it continues to run to this day. He also owned Sanders Alternative Therapy Clinic.
Joe loved the outdoors and led several safaris to South Africa and Zimbabwe. He was a member of the Masons in Clarkston.
Joe is survived by his daughter Stephanie Sanders; and many close friends.
Joe’s family welcomes all to a memorial gathering on Thursday September 2nd, 2021 from 3:30pm until the time of the memorial service at 4 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan.
