Joy Irene Hanje

Joy Irene Hanje, born in Curry Township, Indiana, on February 18, 1938, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Al Hanje,her beloved daughter, Laurie Hietanen, and her brother Jerry House. Joy graduated from Flint High School on June 8, 1956.

She was blessed with four children: Laurie Hietanen, Karrie Vandewater (husband Greg), Sharrie Gorham (husband Kelly), and Keith Hietanen (wife Michelle). She is also survived by her brother Larry House and her stepson, David Hanje (wife Dawn). Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply.

Joy’s life was marked by her gentle spirit, her devotion to her family, and her unwavering love of the Lord. She found joy in painting, gardening, golfing, and taking long walks with her family—simple moments that reflected her appreciation for beauty, connection, and God’s creation.

Those who knew Joy will remember her warmth, her kindness, and the way she made every person feel valued. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will continue to inspire the many lives she touched.
