Marlene Frances Vehoski was born on May 7, 1945 to Cassie Wojcik and Alexander Joseph Lane. The day she was born marked the first day of the end of World War II and her mother said they all celebrated with her ! She loved her Polish heritage, cooking golabkis (cabbage rolls) and her life growing up in Hamtramck, Michigan. Marlene worked for General Dynamics as a secretary, was a dog groomer, owned a bakery, raised her children, nannied, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, St. John Lutheran Church and the Crittenton Hospital gift shop. Marlene was a devoted wife to James Vehoski for 44 years. She loved sharing life with him, sharing her love of gardening and going to Florida for the winter. She loved those blue skies and palm trees! Marlene was also a doting and caring mother to Jeff Fair and Chrissy (Janis) Skujins. She was always visiting her kids in Arizona or Ohio or calling them up to chat. Marlene became a grandma (grams) in 2015 with Katarina Skujins and again in 2017 with Maks Skujins. She never missed a birthday, holiday, or opportunity to send them a gift or treat. Family and friends meant everything to Marlene (or Mar or Cassie) as she was fondly known. She had several pets (and grand pets) in her life that always held a special place in her heart. Shopping, Bunco parties and going to lunches was her specialty. She also loved Motown and polkas. Of course, she was also the life of the party with her accordion playing ! Her music and love for life lives on in those who loved her.
The family will receive guests on Friday, June 6th, beginning at 10 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM, procession to the cemetery to follow.
