Ruth Helen Lingenfelter, 64 of Troy, Michigan, went home to heaven January 2, 2017. Ruth fought a hard battle with cancer with faith, determination, and much grace. She did not lose her battle with cancer; she won life with her Lord and Savior. Her trust that God would see her through every day never wavered, and she would tell you that she learned to trust Him even more.
Ruth, born in Detroit, MI on November 29, 1952 to Helen “Alma” Marion (Ontario, Canada) and Lionel “Jack” Burton (Springfield, IL) graduated from Wilbur Wright High School, Detroit. She had a career in dental practices and office management, most recently working for Integrated Oral Medicine, Bloomfield, MI. She immensely enjoyed her coworkers whom she considered family and they loved her dearly through this journey.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Charles Alben Lingenfelter. Married May 27, 2006, they enjoyed family times with their grandchildren, traveling (with their motor home ), and working together on mission trips to Red Bird Missions, Beverly, KY. Ruth, along with Chuck, also enjoyed her many hours of serving in the Kitchen at Grace Centers of Hope, Pontiac, MI, serving meals to the residents. She loved to take time to talk and get to know the residents and was always blessed by the opportunity to serve there. Together they also supported Cass Community Services, along with serving faithfully at St.Paul’s United Methodist Church (Rochester), & especially enjoyed the Family Life Class.
Ruth is dearly missed by her two daughters, Lisa Danner Koss (Lewisburg, PA) along with husband Darin, and Jennifer Danner Thomas (Lewisburg, PA) and her husband Jim. Ruth was loved by her stepson Steven Cain Lingenfelter, PhD (Washington Twp., MI). Ruth was a loving grandmother to 8 grandchildren who loved her back very much: Adam Michael Koss (Nashville, TN), Haley Elizabeth Koss (Nashville, TN), Chelsea Lynn Koss Corman & husband Taylor (Pittsburgh, PA), Hannah Ruth Koss (Nashville, TN), Justin Robert Thomas (Nashville, TN), Jordan Marie Thomas (Philadelphia, PA), Jenna Joy Thomas (Lewisburg, PA) and Julia Grace Thomas (Lewisburg, PA). Ruth was also blessed this past year with the birth of her first great grandchild, Charlotte Grace Corman. Charlotte was truly a gift to Ruth and a wonderful dose of medicine to her soul over the past year. All of Ruth’s grandkids will tell you she was a nothing but kindness and love and left them a wonderful Christ-like example to follow.
