Born in Rochester, NY on October 27, 1963 to Edward and Grace Vander Horst, Paul grew up in Penfield, NY and graduated with a B.S. in Marketing from St. John Fisher University. After working in a few different industries following college, Paul started his own marketing and direct mail business in 1996.
A recipient of the Rochester Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” award in 2001, Paul was an active member of his community and worked with various non-profits over his career to further causes important to him. He spent many years on the board of the Advertising Council of Rochester (Causewave Community Partners) where he was a Lantern Award winner, organized countless golf tournaments for various charitable organizations, and volunteered with the C.U.R.E Childhood Cancer Association.
Outside of his career, Paul was deeply devoted to his friends and family. The first in line whenever someone was in need, he was always there with a smile on his face and a helping hand for those he loved. He loved to laugh, cherished a medium-rare steak with a good béarnaise, and wanted nothing more than to be with his friends and family. If his goal was to leave a positive impact on this world, he certainly succeeded.
Paul is survived by his son, Matthew Vander Horst; daughter, Danielle Vander Horst (Fabio Fiocchi); the mother of his children, Denise Schroeder; twin brother, Richard Vander Horst (Julie Vander Horst); sisters, Amy Thompson and Mandy Vander Horst; as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. Paul is preceded in death by his father, Edward Vander Horst; his mother, Grace Vander Horst; and his niece, Elke Rockwood.
Calling hours will be held on January 27 at 11 AM at Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home, 2125 Chili Ave, Rochester, NY 14624, where a service will take place at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association or Lollypop Farm, two causes close to Paul’s heart.
