August ‘Gus’ DiMarzio, Jr. Formerly of Ambridge August ‘Gus’ DiMarzio, Jr., 85, passed away on August 5, 2019, at Hospice Tucker House in Kannapolis, N.C. Gus was born in Ambridge, on October 25, 1933, and lived in Pa. until 2013 when he moved to N.C. to be with his son. He was a 1952 graduate of Leetsdale High School and later in life attended Penn State University, Beaver Campus. He was married to the late Patricia (Rihn) DiMarzio for 33 years and had two children, Robert August and James Charles DiMarzio. Gus proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. He worked as a Machinist and Roll Turner for J & L (LTV) Steel Mill for 44 years. He was a member of Center VFW; B.P.O. Aliquippa Elks Lodge, #1221; Baden Legion; Aliquippa Bowling League; Pittsburgh S.O.I. Club and attended Saint Veronica Catholic Church in Ambridge. Surviving him are his two sons, Robert A. (Jeanne) DiMarzio of Salisbury, N.C. and James C. (Geri) DiMarzio of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Christopher and Eric (Stephanie Szary, fiancée) DiMarzio and Shelby Lynn (Douglass Scott) Thomas; several beloved relatives and a dear friend, Frances Kolakowski. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Marie (Battistone) and August DiMarzio, Sr., and a sister, Betty (DiMarzio) Pirkheim Elm. Gus lived life to its fullest enjoying golf; Dixieland and Big Band music; dancing and spending time with family and friends. Friends will be received on Friday, August 23, 2019, from 11 to 12 p.m. at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester, PA 15074 (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). The funeral service with military honors will follow in the funeral home. Private interment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial contributions to honor Gus may be made to a charity of your choice.
