Charles Edwin Schmidt

Charles “Ed” Schmidt, 90, of Patterson Township, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 while under the compassionate care of Heartland Hospice and the staff at Cambridge Village. He was born September 30, 1923 in Beaver Falls, a son of the late William and Louise (Rohrberg) Schmidt. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse, Beaver. He was a member of the Steffin Hill Presbyterian Church and was a supporter of the Air Heritage Museum at the Beaver Co. Airport. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and traveling. Ed was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corp, having served as a fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Powers) Schmidt, as well a brother, William Schmidt and a sister, Dorothy Robinson.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Schmidt, Jr and his wife Linda of Patterson Twp, David Schmidt of San Diego, Ca. and a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Phillis and her husband David of Chippewa; five grandchildren, Adrienne Bailey of Knoxville, Tn, Jennifer Langer of New Brighton, Allison Hoing of Beaver Falls, Anne-Louise Fignar of Clinton and Clarissa Hunter of Chippewa; as well as six great grandchildren, Melody, Peyton, Liam, Colton, Donovan and Elliot. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (GPS 848 Sunflower Road, adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Judy Angleberger, officiating Military Honors will be presented by members of the Beaver County Special Unit.
