Born July 5, 1951, Shirley was a devoted, strong-willed and protective mother, grandmother (Gaga), sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino, vacationing with family and ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that involved her grandson, Grayson.
Grayson, or “My Sweet Pea,” as Gaga called him, captured her whole heart & soul when he came into this world eight years ago. The joy he brought her was truly immeasurable. Whether it was building a puzzle, playing a board game, jumping on the trampoline or putting on the pirate hat for the umpteenth time, Shirley treasured every moment spent together. He made her smile and laugh in a way that has thankfully been captured through photographs and video. This soccer season, Gaga pledged $20 for every goal Grayson scored. Our wish is that her heart is as full as his piggy bank as she watches over him from above. A piece of Grayson’s heart also went to Heaven, but we’re eternally grateful knowing she will protect it.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D’Ambrosio; father, George Barenick; mother, Betty Mateman; and dear friend, June Ceglarsky.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Shawn & Nicole D’Ambrosio; grandson, Grayson D’Ambrosio; sisters, Irene McLaughlin & Bonnie van der Wielen; sister-in-law, Linda Chmura, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Shirley's wishes, a celebration of life will be planned in lieu of a traditional funeral.
The family wishes to thank Nurse Andrea for providing such kind and compassionate care.
You faced it all, and you stood tall, and did it your way...
