Stella Virginia Garlitz, 81, of Monaca, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at her residence. She was born on March 9, 1938 in Indiana, PA, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ellen (Jennings) Gibbons. Stella proudly served her country with the U.S. Air Force. She retired from Penn State University, Beaver Campus where she enjoyed a wonderful career with the housing and food service department. She was loved by many of her associates, as well as the students.
In her leisure, Stella was a ravenous reader on various topics from novels to history, a passion she passed on to her sons. She liked to assemble jigsaw puzzles, cook and bake, especially desserts. Stella was an avid Pittsburgh Penguin and Steelers fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John G. Garlitz; her life partner: Steve S. Holliday; two brothers: Thomas and Bill Gibbons; two sisters: Netta McDermott and Peggy Garlitz.
Stella is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: John “Greg” and Linda Garlitz, Monaca; Gary Garlitz, Monaca; three grandchildren: Zachary, Austin and Michelle; one sister: Martha Glass, Bridgeton, NJ.
