Donald H. Peterson, 96, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. He was born July 12, 1922 in Rockford, IL, the son of Frank E. and Elizabeth (McClure) Peterson. Don served in the United States Navy during WWII, where he was stationed on the USS Aaron Ward. He married Nina Johnson on February 14, 1943 in Loves Park. Don was employed by Rockford Products for many years. He was a talented stain glass maker, enjoyed gardening, and could fix and build anything.
Don is loved and missed by his sister-in-law, Betty Peterson; nieces and nephews, Shirlee Aldrich, Keith Peterson, Nanci (Steve) Whetsel, Jan (John) Stevens, Ed (Laura) Peterson, Carol (John Vogt) Peterson, Leah (Roger) Kasten, Jerry (Debbie) Peterson, and Christine (Dale) Fleshman; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 71 years, Nina, and brothers, Gerald, Charles, and Keith Peterson.
