Doris L Clendening

Doris Lucille Clendening, 90, of Rockford passed away Sunday evening, August 2, 2020 at River Bluff Nursing Home due to complications from the Coronavirus. She was born August 20, 1929 in Rockford, the daughter of Fred and Helen Dickmann. She attended Rockford Public Schools. Doris married the love of her life, Edward Clendening, on April 9, 1949 at Grace Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and was very devoted to her family and friends. She and Ed spent many weekends at Lake Mills and Monticello, Wisconsin enjoying time together. They loved to dance and have a good time. They also looked forward to gatherings with their neighborhood group where they hosted and attended many parties. When not up north or with neighbors, you could find she and Ed at the Lombardi Club where they enjoyed many evenings and weekends.

Doris had a love for animals, gardening, and her “pretties”. She spent countless hours in her yard, making everything look perfect. Her flowers were so amazing. Doris could always be remembered for her fun jewelry, especially her rings, and her hair never having a strand out of place. Her children, to this day, always drag their feet to take photos because she was well known as the photographer of the family. Never missing a photo opportunity. If you needed a photo, you knew she would have it. She loved to capture the moments and look back on the memories often.

Doris is survived by her five children, Steve (Tommie) Clendening, Tom (Denise) Clendening, Charlie Clendening, Peggy (Dewey) Balke, and Ed Clendening (Dawna Ullrich), her grandchildren Miranda, Kati (Paul), Bryce, Bianca (Joe), Jaime (Stephen), and Devin, and 6 great-grandchildren, Izzy, Anabelle, Makai, Lindon, Eva Bel, and Poppy. She is predeceased by her husband Ed, her parents Fred and Helen, her step-father Otto Smit, her sister Phyllis Gridley, and her brothers Bob and Bill Dickmann. Due to Doris’ wishes, no services were held and the family will be having a private burial. Arrangements were handled with Advantage Funeral Home
