Gary L. Mullen, 77, of Rockford, IL passed away on May 26, 2022. He was born in Rockford, IL on February 17, 1945 to George and Adella (Bishell) Mullen. Gary married Joanne Nehls on July 16, 1966 and together they raised 4 wonderful children. Gary was a Boy Scout leader for many years and coached his son’s baseball team. He loved tinkering around at his work bench fixing clocks or just being creative. Gary had multiple booths at Hidden Treasures and enjoyed filling them up with items he had found at antique sales, flea markets, and garage sales. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. Family was very important to Gary and he will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne; his children, Lori (Joe Hewett) Koelker, Candy Martin, Shannon (Todd) McKiski, and Daniel (Mercedes) Mullen; his grandchildren, Nickolas (Erin), Cory (Kelsey), Kyle (Joelee), Lleyton, Adella, Erica (Justin), Lauryn, Alyssa, and Santana; his 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dennis Mullen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Adella; his brothers, Wayne Mullen and John Mullen; and his great-grandson, Ethan.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to all the Critical Care Staff at Swedish American Hospital and all the staff and friends at Hidden Treasures for all of their compassion and care during this difficult time.
Funeral Service will take place for Gary at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 West State Street, Rockford, IL 61102. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial to follow in Willwood Burial Park.
